Dec. 15--Lisa Maxey gave a little laugh as she pushed the Santa hat back on her head and jingled the sleigh bell bracelet on her wrist. That was her uniform on Christian Louboutin Sandals in Black and Silver cold Tuesday at the Morgantown National Guard Armory on the Mileground, as she regarded all those grocery bags of food just waiting to be doled out -- a literal ton of food, in fact, all collected from the community during this year's WCLG/United Way Holiday Food Drive. On Thursday, the food will be distributed. This is the 29th year for the drive coordinated by the Morgantown rock 'n' roll radio station and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. "We'll be at 25 tons of food, at least, before it's all done," said Maxey, who coordinates the family resource network for the United Way. About 565 area families will be recipients of the outpouring, which will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.Thursday at the Armory. A toy drive sponsored by the Morgantown outreach agency Christian Help will also be held. Longtime volunteer Kathy Keefover, who is co-chair of this year's toy drive, said the idea is for each youngster to get a "main" toy -- plus two others. "We've got a little bit of everything," she said of the inventory that included chessboards, Bratz dolls and many other toys.
